Task Force 2: Staff Management and Training

Leader: Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Contact: Ulrike Arnold and Dominique Lacroix (dominique.lacroix@charite.de)

Summary:

Year 1: Train the trainer programme for intercultural awareness and
language training
Year 2: Multiplication at partner Institutions
Year 3: Establishing training centres at the partner institutions
(medical faculties)

Details:

The goal of this work package is to set up a system of trainings that transport centrally developed ideas on internationalization in teaching, research and administration to the project partners and beyond.

To start the activities, TF2 will raise essential questions among its members; i.e. HR Managers and Senior Staff involved in HRD.: What are the needs of international students, administrative staff, professors and scientists who will be studying and working at the IMS 2020? How can medical faculties/schools deal with the various challenges related to internationalization? On the occasion of the first TF2 workshop (Berlin) these questions will be addressed and answers will be sought. The existing international degree programmes/bilateral programmes of all TF 2 members will serve as models of good practice and will need analysis. During the same meeting, the Train-the-Trainer programmes that will be hosted at the TF2 leader’s institution (Berlin) will be defined and aligned to meet the needs of all institutions directly involved in the project. The Train-the-Trainer programmes will run at the end of year 1 and count 1 multiplier (participant) from each partner institution. A distinction will be made between three different programmes for three different target groups: University Professors (A), Researchers (B), Administrative Staff (C). At the end of the individual training programmes, a plenary debriefing session will be held in order to prepare the participants (multipliers) for their assignments in the run to year 2.

The goal for the second year of TF2 activities will be to multiply the lessons learned in the previous year. All multipliers (18 in total) who took part in one of the three Charité programmes will be expected to run their own training programmes at their home institutions. These programmes will be designed for a max. of 25 participants. The majority of participants will be colleagues from within the home institution, but a minimum participation from other institutions (at least five) will be required (openness – flexibility – cross-fertilization).The mentors of the series of programmes run during year 1 will be available for assistance and support in the course of the second year (helpdesk). The TF2 members will be required to submit a training report to the TF2 leader/project coordinator. This information will constitute valuable feedback for the establishment of learning centres in the course of project year 3. When all partners have finished running their programmes, a feedback meeting will be hosted at the coordinator’s institution.

Throughout the project duration the TF 2 leader (Charité) will cooperate closely with the newly founded ‘Centre for Medical Training and Evidence Based Research into Medical Training’ at the Charité Medical Faculty in the area of systematic professionalization of teaching competence and quality.
